Because of the ferry, I would add 3 (or 4) extra days to a deviation to Ireland, and I would leave from Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales. Get a B&B or hotel in Holyhead where you can leave your rental car and come back late, to spend the night of return. And probably a hotel in Dublin as well. You cannot take a rental car from Britain to the Republic of Ireland. So arrange another rental in Dublin. Sorry, I don’t have an itinerary setup for Ireland, since Ireland is not a part of Great Britain (only the United Kingdom, ant Northern Ireland only). But the map below might help your planning.

The best ferry goes from Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales, to Dun Laoghaire (Dublin) Ireland and back.
You cannot take rental cars from England or Wales over to Ireland. You must leave it and rent one there.
